Education & Training
Dr. Kim completed his extensive surgical training at the Ostrow School of Dentistry at USC and LAC+USC Medical Center, one of the most demanding oral and maxillofacial residency programs in the nation. During his residency, he also obtained his medical degree from the Keck School of Medicine of USC, making him one of the select few oral surgeons licensed to practice both dentistry and medicine.
His training also included specialized experience in pediatric oral and maxillofacial conditions at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA), where he treated complex craniofacial and jaw disorders in children.
Academic & Professional Leadership
Dr. Kim is a dedicated educator, researcher, and international lecturer in oral and maxillofacial surgery. He serves as a Clinical Assistant Professor at UCI Medical School’s Department of Head & Neck Surgery and is a faculty member at both the Herman Ostrow School of Dentistry at USC and UCLA School of Dentistry. Throughout his career, he has trained future oral surgeons and international fellows from countries including Korea, Ecuador, Mexico, Sweden, and Iran. His research, published in peer-reviewed medical journals and textbooks, continues to advance the field of oral and facial surgery.
Specialized Experience & Surgical Innovations
After his academic tenure, Dr. Kim was recruited by Kaiser Permanente Medical Group, where he focused on developing advanced surgical techniques for temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders and obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). His expertise in minimally invasive TMJ treatments and airway reconstruction has helped countless patients regain pain-free function and improved sleep quality.
He also maintains hospital privileges at Hoag Presbyterian Hospital in Irvine and Newport Beach, where he collaborates with multi-disciplinary medical teams for complex surgical cases.
Global Outreach & Community Involvement
Beyond his clinical practice, Dr. Kim is dedicated to community service, mentoring young professionals in Orange County and supporting global healthcare initiatives. He makes annual medical mission trips to Paraguay, providing oral and maxillofacial surgery to underserved populations.
